Since 2014, 100+ Women Who Care – Madison has distributed $665,000+ to over 65 deserving local organizations. In addition to our quarterly Impact Award recipients featured below, this total includes $28,300+ to other Dane County non-profits who presented at meetings!

March 2024 • TBA. Maydm provides girls and youth of color in grades 6 -12 with the skills, experiences and connections to pursue careers in and change the face of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.) Maydm envisions a world where all students know that a career in STEM is possible, where all students can pursue their dreams as entrepreneurs, developers, engineers, and more. 


United Madison Sex TraffickingUnited Madison Sex Trafficking

December 2023 • $16,475. Sex trafficking is happening right here in Madison. There are many different stories and situations when it comes to sex trafficking. Tragically, society continues to overlook the highest-risk populations. The barriers are significant for this most vulnerable demographic and the ability to provide them with resources to start a new life is crucial.


Bayview Foundation, Inc.

September 2023 • $17,875. Founded in 1966, we operate Bayview Townhouses, 102 units of Section 8 Project-Based housing, and a centrally located community center, The International Center for Education and the Arts. The mission of Bayview Foundation, Inc. is to support its culturally diverse, low-income residents in realizing their aspirations by providing affordable housing, fostering cultural pride, and building community through the arts, education, and recreation. The International Center for Education and the Arts accomplishes Bayview’s mission by designing programs and services to meet the social, educational, recreational, and cultural needs and interests of Bayview’s 277 residents, as well as members of the surrounding community.


Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center

June 2023 • $17,775. Safe Harbor reduces trauma and promotes healing for children and adults with intellectual disabilities who are victims of or witnesses to crime. To accomplish their mission, Safe Harbor provides a trauma-informed, safe, child-friendly environment for best practice forensic interviews, immediate and ongoing advocacy for affected children and families, and coordination and support of multi-disciplinary investigations and responses. 

This is the first duplicate charity that received the Impact Award since 100+ Women Who Care – Madison was formed in 2014. Safe Harbor also won in September 2014.


RISE Wisconsin

March 2023 • $18,980. RISE emerged in April 2017 from a merger between Community Partnerships, Inc. and Center for Families, two Dane County non-profits focused on community-based, strengths-driven services to children, families, and young adults. Together the organizations have more than 60 years of experience providing services in our community and serve more than 3,300 individuals (including children and families) annually.


Luke’s Closet

December 2022 • $18,400. Luke’s Closet serves foster, adoptive and kinship care children from birth through age 18 years. Luke’s Closet allows guardians to focus on helping kids heal from trauma, not the stress of providing for them. Foster and kinship families are an often-forgotten population frequently operating on the financial margins while caring for children who may have arrived at their new home with just the clothes on their backs after leaving a traumatic situation. They are Dane County’s only clothing closet for foster, adoptive and kinship kids.


Mentoring Positives

September 2022 • $17,850. Mentoring Positives is committed to building strong, trusting relationships, positives attitudes, and life skills in youth through mentoring and social entrepreneurship. By offering kids a supportive, positive community to be a part of, MP builds their confidence in themselves and the way they see the world around them. They empower kids to make healthy choices by staying out of gangs, drugs, and other activities that negatively impact their childhood and future.


Shelter from the Storm Ministries

June 2022 • $17,750. Currently the only homeless shelter in Sun Prairie, they serve single mothers and their children under 18. SFTSM offers the stability of a safe, clean and trauma-informed place to stay for up to 12 months. Their clients are assisted by an Opportunity Coach, an experienced Case Manager, a live-in House Manager, a Trauma Therapist. They have an on-site food pantry to make sure every child has enough to eat year-round. SFTSM is helping to change lives by giving clients education and opportunities. 100% of our program graduates last year were able to obtain a much higher paying full-time job by the time they left.


Benevolent Specialists Project (BSP) Free Clinic

March 2022 • $17,850. BSP is the only free clinic in our community whose mission is to provide free specialty medical care for uninsured, low-income patients who are referred by area primary care organizations. A team of 40 volunteer physicians representing a variety of medical specialties, such as cardiology, psychiatry, rheumatology, pulmonology, orthopedics, dermatology, and ophthalmology, provide over 1,000 free patient care visits each year, focusing on serious illnesses and chronic health conditions. Fifty additional volunteers, including physician assistants, physical therapists, nurses, and interpreters, help BSP patients reduce costly trips to the emergency room and avoid more serious illness.


Friends of UW Odyssey Project

December 2021 • $15,350. Friends of UW Odyssey Project takes a whole family approach to breaking the cycle of generational poverty through access to education, giving adult and youth learners a voice, and increasing confidence through reading, writing, and speaking. In the core six- credit English literature course, UW-Madison faculty introduce adults to great works of literature, philosophy, history, and art and help them improve skills in writing and critical thinking. Program alumni are then supported with additional coursework, advising, and wrap-around services as they pursue their dreams and college degrees. Friends of the UW Odyssey Project, Inc., was founded to support the program, fundraise, and to provide wrap- around services, including housing, transportation, childcare, and child enrichment.


Little John’s Kitchen

September 2021 • $15,850. Little John’s Kitchen and Restaurant is a nonprofit on a mission to tackle three big issues – food insecurity, food waste and military veteran culinary training. Little John’s partners with grocery stores, taking nutritious ingredients that would otherwise be thrown away due to cosmetic or display space reasons, and converts them into healthy, chef-quality, delicious meals. Little John’s is positioned to produce 30,000 meals weekly.


Allied Wellness Center

June 2021 • $16,000. The Allied Wellness Center believe that having access to health care is not just a luxury, but a fundamental human right for every member of our community. They hope the Center will bring community members and service partners together to continue to strengthen the foundation of the neighborhood and to serve as a bridge for neighbors to take an important step toward creating a healthier lifestyle.


100 Black Men of Madison

March 2021 • $16,250.

100 Black Men of Madison, Inc. seeks to serve as a beacon of leadership by utilizing diverse talents to create environments where children are motivated to achieve, and to empower people to become self-sufficient shareholders in the economic and social fabric of the communities they serve.


Friends of The State Street Family

December 2020 • $15,450. The mission of Friends of the State Street Family is to alleviate human suffering by providing help and hope to people experiencing homelessness in Dane County by connecting them with essential resources. The resources in Madison are overburdened and unable to meet the basic survival needs with the current homeless population.


Northside Planning Council

September 2020 • $15,525. With the goal of advancing racial and economic equity, The Northside Planning Council’s areas of focus include small business incubation, food security, regional food system coordination, vocational training, commercial district revitalization, community journalism, grassroots leadership development, and community organizing.


Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness

 

June 2020 • $17,053. The mission of The Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness is to radically transform Black Women’s health by creating a world where Black women and girls live long, happy and thriving lives, defined by healthy minds, bodies and spirits.


Canopy Center

March 2020 • $16,350. Canopy Center’s mission is to help strengthen families and support children, teens, and adults impacted by trauma and adversity.


National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Dane County

December 2019 • $19,995. NAMI Dane County is the founding chapter of the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.


Wisconsin Academy for Graduate Service Dogs (WAGS)

September 2019 • $18,269. WAGS’ mission is to promote functional independence and improved quality of life for people with physical disabilities through partnerships with highly-skilled service dogs. WAGS has facilitated the partnership of more than 125 service dogs for people with physical disabilities.


Food for Thought: Thea’s Table

June 2019 • $17,405. Thea’s Table is an innovative program for Madison school children and their families experiencing homelessness or crises. Thea’s Table provides nutritious, shelf-stable food for the weekend, when the children do not get breakfast and lunch at school.


Horizon High School

Mar 2019 • $20,021. The mission of Horizon High School is to provide a school that fosters emotional, social and academic growth for students who want to learn in an alcohol-free, drug-free environment.


The Playing Field

December 2018 • $19,027. The Playing Field is a high-quality early learning center focused on early attachment and brain development. They care for and educate children experiencing homelessness alongside children from more advantaged backgrounds.


Madison-area Urban Ministry

September 2018 • $18,359. Madison-area Urban Ministry’s many programs inspire hope for individuals returning to the Dane County community after incarceration by breaking down the barriers that prevent them from fully participating in the community and the lives of their families.


Free Bikes 4 Kids Madison

June 2018 • $16,946. Free Bikes 4 Kidz is a passionate group of people who love giving back. It’s their goal to help every child feel the joys and freedom of riding their first bike.


Maydm

March 2018 • $17,305. Maydm provides girls and youth of color in grades 6-12 with skill-based training for the technology sector. Their holistic approach prepares students from traditionally underrepresented populations to engage in and revolutionize the tech industry.


Three Gaits, Inc.

December 2017 • $17,227. Three Gaits, Inc.’s mission is to provide equine-assisted activities and therapies that enhance the lives of people with physical, emotional, or intellectual challenges.


Girls, Inc.

September 2017 • $17,003. Girls Inc. focuses on the development of the whole girl. She learns to value herself, take risks, and discover and develop her inherent strengths.


The River Food Pantry

June 2017 • $16,075. The River Food Pantry provides food, resources and faith to build a stronger community. Services include free groceries, meals and clothing, as well as free mobile lunches for children and teens on non-school days.


Heartland Farm Sanctuary

March 2017 • $16,357. Heartland Farm Sanctuary is dedicated to helping homeless farm animals in Wisconsin, and building connections between animals and vulnerable youth so they could come together to heal, grow, and have fun.


Sunshine Place

December 2016 • $17,590. The purpose of Sunshine Place is to direct and administer the operation of a facility to house multiple charitable organizations providing social services in a manner that provides a single point of access for the Sun Prairie community.


Project Home

September 2016 • $16,381. Gio’s Garden

ARC Community Services, Inc.

March 2016 • $15,170. ARC Community Services is dedicated to helping women reclaim their lives, gain awareness of their personal self-worth and be empowered to make the changes necessary to improve their welfare along with that of their children and families.


Underdog Pet Rescue of Wisconsin

December 2015 • $12,500. Underdog Pet Rescue is an all-breed companion animal rescue whose mission is to find permanent homes for animals in need, and to enrich lives by strengthening the connection between animals and people through community services and outreach.


One City Early Learning Centers

September 2015 • $11,775. The mission of One City is to prepare young children for success in school and life and ensure they are on track to succeed in a college and career preparatory program in high school.


Dane County Rape Crisis Center

June 2015 • $12,760. The Rape Crisis Center works within Dane County to promote hope, help and healing for those harmed by sexual violence and strives through education and outreach to create social change to end sexual violence.


The Road Home

Operation Fresh Start

December 2014 • $10,200. Operation Fresh Start provides a path forward for disconnected youth in Dane County, ages 16-24, through education, mentoring, and employment training.

Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS)

Porchlight, Inc.

March 2014 • $7,925. Porchlight strives to reduce homelessness in Dane County by collaborating with the community to provide shelter, affordable housing, and supportive services that eliminate barriers and empower the individuals and families they serve.
